Why Reddit videos download without sound
Reddit's own video hosting (v.redd.it) stores the video track and the audio as separate files — the on-site player stitches them together on the fly. That's why saving a video straight from the player URL gives you a silent clip. ClipSave downloads both streams and automatically merges them into a regular MP4 — with sound, just like the original.
How to download a Reddit video
- Open the post with the video on Reddit — in the app or browser.
- Tap "Share" → "Copy Link". Both the short redd.it link and the full post link work.
- Paste the link into ClipSave and press "Download" — the file saves with sound.
GIFs and videos without audio
Reddit GIF and gifv posts download as MP4 files — they weigh less and play on any device. If the source video had no sound (a silent GIF), the file saves without an audio track — that's expected.

What won't download
- Videos from private subreddits — they require membership and aren't accessible anonymously.
- Posts embedding videos from other platforms. If a post links to YouTube or Twitter, copy that link and paste it into ClipSave separately: we support YouTube and Twitter too.
- Deleted posts — once a post is removed by moderators or the author, the video is usually gone.
